Walk through the winding Siq to the last bend which suddenly widens to reveal the treasury. This edifice is the most well-known site at Petra. Climb to the High Place of Sacrifice for rewarding views of the monuments below and wander through the royal tombs.

The Monastery sits at the top of long route of more than 800 stairs but the climb is worth it. You can stay in the nearby Wadi Musa for a short walk to Petra. Otherwise, it’s a 2–3-hour drive from larger towns such as Aqaba or Amman.
